The one time jewel of the civil service and indeed the South African business world is now being whittled away to a former shadow of itself.  The senior management team has been destroyed and with the suspension of two very senior and competent people we can expect more disasters over this next financial year.  Without SARS being on top of its game the government will probably collect less money and the business world will fast lose confidence in the institution.

Although this is not new, we as South Africans are feeling punch drunk when we see how our government has gone out of its way to destroy just about every public institution and all the parastatals.  One would think that there would be a greater outcry from the citizenry but it appears that this is the “frog in the hot tub syndrome”, eventually when we realise our institutions have been irreparably damaged it will be too late to save the country.  Let us speak up now.
