With the numerous and voluminous changes to the broad based black economic empowerment programme, it is becoming almost impossible for any lawyer let alone a business leader to fully understand the intricacies.  Despite Bidvest being advised by some of the country’s most competent attorneys they find that the programme is not working.  The various demands made by the state owned enterprises are not only destructive to the economy but are certainly destructive to the future of South Africa.

Social engineering is notoriously expensive, unwieldy and incredibly negative to business development.  The history of social engineering speaks for itself.  We had the experiment in Malaysia which drove the Chinese businesses out of business and we had the worst example of social engineering practiced by the Nazi’s in the second world war.

The only way we are going to right the wrongs of apartheid is by expanding the economy allowing businesses to do what they know best and that is to grow their businesses and ensure that we develop more black entrepreneurs who will take their rightful place at the helm of the business community.
