As we enter into the strike season in South Africa we should take note of the fact that our economy is already “on its knees”, and that the various wage negotiations in the different industries have to a large degree not created any industrial peace.  There appears to be a “perfect storm” in the making.  Internationally the economies are not doing well and even China is starting to shake.

In essence we in South Africa need strong governance with good productivity and solid state owned entities.

We have exactly the opposite.

On the leader page in your same edition a ratings agency called on South Africa to stop bailing out the state entities and warned us of a high wage bill.  One would think even the dumbest rulers who have their hands on the economy would notice that they are doing everything wrong. But no, we keep hearing that our government has “a good story to tell”.  Our voice, as the public, will be heard sometime midyear in 2016.  We should at least make the effort to come forward at the ballot box to indicate to our current government that enough is enough.
