As was predicted the Department of Labour have now removed all power from its Registrar because he was doing his job.  It is clear from all the reports that the trade union CEPPWAWU had not submitted its financial statements for almost five years and that according to both the laws and the regulations it was incumbent upon the Department of Labour to approach the Labour Court to suspend and deregister the Union.  Now due to political interference it looks like that court case, which is long overdue, is now about to be withdrawn.  Who is protecting the Union and why?  Why has Minister Oliphant, our Labour Minister, taken this extraordinary view point?  It would be interesting to find out what other trade unions have not submitted their audited financial statements and why has no action been taken against them.

The Department appears to be protecting Cosatu related unions despite clear evidence there has been wrong doing.  Never mind corruption this is just straight forward political protection.
